The Ellis is a converted 1890s church in Newburgh, and there are bats living in it. On Halloween night, the building wakes up — and you're the only one in the room who didn't know it could.

It starts exactly like the best party you've been to all year. Live music, low light, strange beautiful creatures who somehow already know your name and hand you things you didn't ask for. Everything glows. Everyone's laughing. Nothing has threatened you. Not yet.

Stay long enough and you'll notice it. An eye where there shouldn't be one. A mirror that's one person short. A laugh held a half-second too long. Nobody rings a bell to tell you the ride has changed — you just look up and realize the room you walked into an hour ago isn't the one you're standing in now.

This isn't a haunted house. No fangs, no jump scares, no store-bought latex. Nothing here is orange and black. What's coming for you is quieter than that, and a lot more polite about it — right up until it isn't.

Come dressed like something that lives here. Not a costume you could wear to any other Halloween party in the country — warped anatomy, wrong-scale features, eyes and ears and mouths in places they shouldn't be, tailoring gone sideways. High fashion meets the bizarre.
