HVTech Show & Tell: Makers / Creatives Edition - Newburgh, NY

Wednesday, July 8th · Doors open 5:30 PM · Main program 6:00–8:00 PM · Networking continues after

📍 The Ellis, Newburgh, NY · theellisnewburgh.com · @the.ellis.newburgh

This one is different.

No formal agenda. No slides-only presentations. Just makers, builders, tinkerers, musicians, and dreamers gathering in one of the coolest creative spaces in the Hudson Valley — The Ellis in Newburgh — to show each other what they're working on.

If you've built something, broken something, coded something, soldered something, composed something, or just found something fascinating — this is your stage.

We're looking for people who want to bring:

🤖 A robot — your favorite bot, build, or mechanical curiosity. Show it off. Let people poke at it.

💻 A project demo — anything running on a laptop, a Raspberry Pi, or a breadboard. We'll have a projector. You bring the wow.

🎨 A creative project — physical or digital. Art, design, interactive installation, generative work — if you made it, we want to see it.

🎵 Music — bring tracks, an instrument, or a live set. The Ellis is a creative space and we want the energy to match.

Want to present or show something?

Fill out our Call for Speakers form and tell us what you're bringing — we'll be in touch to find the right format for you:

👉 forms.gle/SykEozKgmKae8xgV6

Spots are limited, so don't wait.

The vibe:

Arrive from 5:30 PM for early mingling. The main program runs 6:00–8:00 PM, with open networking continuing after. Weather permitting, we'll spill out into The Ellis backyard — one of Newburgh's most unexpected outdoor spaces.

🍹 Cash bar available — come thirsty.

This is a community evening — part tech meetup, part maker fair, part creative gathering. Bring a friend who doesn't think of themselves as "a tech person." They'll fit right in.

🌀 Something Bigger Is Brewing

We're working on something we're calling AI-infused entertainment — a concept that blends technology, creativity, and live experience in ways the Hudson Valley hasn't seen yet.

We believe the most interesting things happen at the edges: where a coder meets a musician, where a robotics builder meets a visual artist, where AI tools meet human creative instinct.

If you're a creative, performer, venue, or maker in the Hudson Valley who's been thinking along these lines — we want to meet you. This event is part of how we find each other.

Come with your ideas. Leave with co-conspirators.

🆓 Free to attend — RSVP is mandatory

Local tech professionals get-together in person on a monthly basis, alternating local municipalities. All these smaller size meet ups culminate with the two-day professional developers conference, DevFest Troy on October 23-24th, 2026. We will provide more details about this event as we move forward.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Introduction to AI Agents and Workflow Automation

Introduction to AI Agents and Workflow Automation

Get hands-on with AI agents and learn how to automate your daily workflows like a pro!

Everyone's talking about AI agents. Most people still can't say what one actually is, or how it's different from a chatbot.
This session clears that up. We'll cover what an AI agent really is, how it makes decisions and uses tools, and where automation pays off versus where it just adds noise. Then a live build: one agent doing a real task, start to finish, so you can see the moving parts instead of just hearing about them.
This is the first in a monthly series. Future sessions go hands-on: setting up your own environment and building agents around a process in your own business or life.
You'll leave knowing:
• What an AI agent is, in plain terms
• How agents use tools, memory, and decisions to get work done
• Where to start automating, and what to skip
• What to bring if you want to build alongside us next month
Who it's for: Business owners, builders, and anyone curious about AI. No technical background required.
Format: ~60 minutes, talk plus live demo plus Q&A. Optional setup session after for anyone who wants a head start.
Free to attend. Seats are limited.

THE ELLIS DISCO SERIES PRESENTS: DARK DISCO

THE ELLIS DISCO SERIES PRESENTS: DARK DISCO

Dark disco, post-punk, new wave, industrial, and darkwave collide with live music from Lulu Lewis and DJ Midna Mayhem.

There’s a certain kind of night that doesn’t belong to any one era.

It feels pulled from late-70s New York, early-80s underground clubs, and something slightly ahead of its time.

Dark Disco lives there.

For one night, The Ellis becomes a space where post-punk, new wave, darkwave, disco, industrial, synth pop, and raw club energy all sit in the same room. Nothing polished into one direction. Just music that knows how to move people.

Headlining the evening is Lulu Lewis, bringing a sound that exists somewhere between beauty and tension. Post-punk at its spine, disco in its pulse, and a distinctly New York edge that makes every track feel cinematic without trying too hard. They don’t fit neatly into a category, and that’s exactly the point.

The night continues with Midna Mayhem, whose sets draw from the darker corners of alternative dance culture. Expect post-punk classics, industrial rhythms, darkwave grooves, goth anthems, and unexpected turns designed for crowded dance floors and late hours.

This is a night built for movement. For people who like their dance music with a little grit in it. A little emotion too.

Inside The Ellis, light moves across historic architecture while sound fills rooms that were never meant to stay quiet.

This isn’t a throwback night.

It isn’t a theme party.

It’s just a good place to be when the music gets strange and the room feels alive.

Featuring

  • Lulu Lewis (Live)

  • Midna Mayhem (DJ Set)

Music For Fans Of

Post-Punk • Dark Disco • New Wave • Darkwave • Industrial • Synth Pop • Alternative Dance • Goth Club Culture

Once a church and now one of the Hudson Valley's most unique performance venues, The Ellis provides the perfect setting for an evening of hilarious confessions, questionable life choices, and punchlines worthy of redemption.

Headlining the evening is Josh Tinley, from "The Dojo Of Comedy" a rising force on the comedy scene known for his sharp writing, relatable storytelling, and energetic stage presence. Josh has been entertaining audiences throughout the Northeast and continues to leave crowds wanting more.

Featuring Zach McMahon, who regularly performs with Don't Tell Comedy and has appeared at top comedy clubs and venues throughout the tri-state area. Zach's quick wit and unique perspective make him a crowd favorite wherever he performs.

Also featuring Geordan Mallas, a Hudson Valley favorite who has brought his laid-back style and clever observations to audiences across the region.

Hosting the evening is Michael "Salty" Saltz, founder of Salty's Comedy. A comedian, registered nurse, husband, and father of twin boys, Salty blends family life, healthcare stories, and everyday chaos into a comedy style that audiences instantly connect with. As Pride Month reaches its grand finale and summer stretches before us, The Ellis transforms once again into a dreamscape.

THE ELLIS DISCO SERIES PRESENTS: GARDEN DISCO CIRCUS

🌈 Pride Month Closing Celebration

📍 The Ellis, Newburgh, NY

🗓 Saturday, June 27, 2026

🚪 Doors: 9:00 PM

As Pride Month reaches its grand finale and summer stretches before us, The Ellis transforms once again into a dreamscape of glitter, movement, music, and radical self-expression.

Welcome to Garden Disco Circus — a one-night-only celebration where the sacred and the spectacular collide beneath the soaring ceilings of a historic church in the heart of Newburgh.

For the final Pride celebration of the month, we're inviting you into a world of disco decadence, circus wonder, and uninhibited joy. Expect aerial performers suspended above the dance floor, immersive visual experiences, unexpected moments of delight, and a community united in celebration of authenticity, freedom, and love.

Soundtracking the evening is Flared Bass, a DJ known for weaving together euphoric disco, house, nu-disco, indie dance, and groove-driven selections that keep bodies moving and spirits elevated. Her sets are playful yet powerful—equal parts dancefloor liberation and musical journey. Flared Bass has become a favorite among Hudson Valley and NYC dance communities for creating spaces where everyone feels invited to lose themselves in the music and find themselves in the process.

As the dance floor blooms beneath a canopy of lights and aerial artistry, Garden Disco Circus becomes more than a party—it's a celebration of Pride's enduring spirit: self-expression, creativity, community, and the courage to be seen exactly as you are.

Come dressed for the occasion. Think disco glamour, circus fantasy, garden enchantment, sequins, feathers, flowers, or whatever version of yourself has been waiting for an excuse to shine.

Together we'll close Pride Month the way it deserves to be closed: dancing beneath the arches of a church turned playground, surrounded by beautiful humans, and stepping collectively into Summer 2026 with joy, color, and intention.

YOU OUGHTA KNOW: An 80s, 90s & Aughts Dance Party

The Ellis gets hot. Queer, sweaty, disco chaos. Pride kickoff party with DJ Tryst + Michael V. You’re not going home early.

You know that moment—
when the party you thought was the night ends… and then you hear about something else happening?

This is that something else.

YOU OUGHTA KNOW is where Pride Month actually starts. Not polite. Not early. Not casual.

Late-night at The Ellis, when nobody’s ready to be done yet, we take it downstairs, turn it darker, louder, and a lot more interesting.

DJ Tryst and Michael V are in control of the room—stretching time, bending genres, pulling you from one era into another without warning. Disco that feels dangerous. 90s house that hits like a memory in your chest. Early 2000s tracks that shouldn’t work anymore but somehow hit harder now.

You’re not standing around at this party.
You’re in it.

It’s bodies moving too close.
It’s strangers becoming temporary best friends.
It’s sweat, eye contact, hands in the air, losing your drink, not caring.

Somewhere between midnight and too late, the whole place locks in—
and suddenly nobody’s thinking, everyone’s just moving.

Wear something that makes you feel like yourself but louder. Or someone else entirely. No one’s checking. No one’s judging. That’s the point.

This isn’t a throwback night.
It’s not ironic.
It’s not cute.

It’s a dancefloor with a pulse.

And if you’ve ever had a song completely take you over—
you already know why you need to be here.

Palmyra Live with Judy Blank
Apr
11

Palmyra Live with Judy Blank

An electrifying night at The Ellis: Palmyra with Judy Blank blends of indie rock, folk & roots.

Palmyra

Established in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Palmyra captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives: Teddy Chipouras, Mānoa Bell, and Sasha Landon.

Palmyra straddles at least two musical worlds. They are, on one hand, a band from the South that plays traditional instruments and indeed once lived in the old-time locus of Floyd, Virginia. Comparisons to and a kinship with The Avett Brothers and even Old Crow Medicine Show are inevitable. On the other hand, Palmyra writes about grief, gender dysphoria and identity, and coming of age in songs that flirt with soul, post-rock, and even emo; the South, too, is the place of My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, Cat Power, and now, Palmyra.

The band’s first full length LP, Restless, is out now on Oh Boy Records. Framed by moments of struggle, solidarity, and hard-won growth, Restless is an unqualified ringer for anyone who loves the space where the roar of indie rock collides with raw folk.

Judy Blank

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Blank fell in love with classic American cinema. The flickering haze of desert sunsets, endless open roads, and misfits searching for meaning. She first made waves in Europe, touring club circuits, playing major festivals, and charming crowds with her offbeat storytelling and sharp wit. But her obsession with the American dream never faded, pulling her to Nashville, where she recorded her ‘70s-inspired coming-of-age debut album, Morning Sun. The record gained international recognition, earned praise from Elton John, and won her an RIAA Gold Award for her jagged-edged folk ballad Tangled Up in You. Shortly after, she made history as the first Dutch artist ever to play AmericanaFest in Nashville, proving she could hold her own in the old-school big leagues, while still being the weirdest person in the room.

Medicine Disco

Medicine Disco

Medicine Disco: a beautiful, systemized, dance ritual and social event with no substances, no phones, no shaman culture, no influencer culture.

It's electric, therapeutic, and funky.

A middle ground between a dope night out at the clubs and a meditative spiritual practice.

The Medicine is the music, the dance. The Disco is the dance party it’s served in.

The host and DJ, Michael V is a highly trained expert at dance music storytelling, fitness training, and movement coaching.

The music selection will range and scaffold from ambient, to sultry RNB, to disco, to pumping house, afro, latin, jazz, indie pop, rock, electronic, and other genres in order to give the body a rich storyline to dance to.

1. Music is on, Michael V on the mic.

2. Physical and Non-Physical warm up to bring the musculoskeletal and nervous system online.

3. Orientation to the structure of the dance experience and the rules that make it work.

4. Gorgeous sounds for a short guided meditation.

5. Then the dancing begins: Anywhere between a 90 - 120 minute musical journey that feels like we are dancing through a movie - a really good movie

Michael V will punctuate the dance set with cues on the mic to keep us from getting stuck in our heads, in a habitual movement pattern, or accidentally staying small.

We dance and clap and spin and sweat and maybe scream and maybe cry and maybe feel better than we ever did on the first day of the year (or ever).

The dance ends softly so we can bask in the results of our busting ass on the dance floor - kinda like the end of a yoga class.

We rise slowly, lightly, cutesy, with additional soft lounge tunes to bring us back to a place where we can metabolize the effects of the dance and socialize from this post-dance state of being.

Indulge in the specialty drinks and food available at the venue as a group that shifted energy together.

with special guest Fabrizio
📍 Newburgh, NY
📅 Saturday, March 22, 2026
👥 All Ages

Darren Kiely brings his powerful, folk-infused sound to The Ellis for an intimate live performance on March 22, joined by special guest Fabrizio.

Hailing from County Cork, Ireland, Darren Kiely blends traditional Irish roots with modern folk influences reminiscent of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, and Noah Kahan. His emotive songwriting and raw vocal delivery have earned him international attention, with chart-topping tracks like “Sunrise” and “Mom & Dad” and acclaimed EPs Lost and From The Dark. Now based between New York City and Nashville, Kiely continues to captivate audiences with deeply personal storytelling and soaring melodies.

Opening the night is Fabrizio, a Nashville-based Americana and country artist with a voice as powerful as his story. Born in the highlands of Huánuco, Peru, and later settling in Georgia at just 15, Fabrizio channels his journey into a commanding baritone that blends traditional country emotion with modern Southern storytelling. At only 23, he is quickly carving out a unique space in the Americana scene with performances that are as honest as they are unforgettable.

This is an all-ages show and a rare chance to experience two rising voices in folk and Americana in an intimate venue setting.

🎶 Early arrival strongly recommended.
