YOU OUGHTA KNOW: An 80s, 90s & Aughts Dance Party

to May 31

YOU OUGHTA KNOW: An 80s, 90s & Aughts Dance Party

The Ellis gets hot. Queer, sweaty, disco chaos. Pride kickoff party with DJ Tryst + Michael V. You’re not going home early.

You know that moment—
when the party you thought was the night ends… and then you hear about something else happening?

This is that something else.

YOU OUGHTA KNOW is where Pride Month actually starts. Not polite. Not early. Not casual.

Late-night at The Ellis, when nobody’s ready to be done yet, we take it downstairs, turn it darker, louder, and a lot more interesting.

DJ Tryst and Michael V are in control of the room—stretching time, bending genres, pulling you from one era into another without warning. Disco that feels dangerous. 90s house that hits like a memory in your chest. Early 2000s tracks that shouldn’t work anymore but somehow hit harder now.

You’re not standing around at this party.
You’re in it.

It’s bodies moving too close.
It’s strangers becoming temporary best friends.
It’s sweat, eye contact, hands in the air, losing your drink, not caring.

Somewhere between midnight and too late, the whole place locks in—
and suddenly nobody’s thinking, everyone’s just moving.

Wear something that makes you feel like yourself but louder. Or someone else entirely. No one’s checking. No one’s judging. That’s the point.

This isn’t a throwback night.
It’s not ironic.
It’s not cute.

It’s a dancefloor with a pulse.

And if you’ve ever had a song completely take you over—
you already know why you need to be here.

Palmyra Live with Judy Blank
Apr
11

Palmyra Live with Judy Blank

An electrifying night at The Ellis: Palmyra with Judy Blank blends of indie rock, folk & roots.

Palmyra

Established in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, Palmyra captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives: Teddy Chipouras, Mānoa Bell, and Sasha Landon.

Palmyra straddles at least two musical worlds. They are, on one hand, a band from the South that plays traditional instruments and indeed once lived in the old-time locus of Floyd, Virginia. Comparisons to and a kinship with The Avett Brothers and even Old Crow Medicine Show are inevitable. On the other hand, Palmyra writes about grief, gender dysphoria and identity, and coming of age in songs that flirt with soul, post-rock, and even emo; the South, too, is the place of My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, Cat Power, and now, Palmyra.

The band’s first full length LP, Restless, is out now on Oh Boy Records. Framed by moments of struggle, solidarity, and hard-won growth, Restless is an unqualified ringer for anyone who loves the space where the roar of indie rock collides with raw folk.

Judy Blank

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Blank fell in love with classic American cinema. The flickering haze of desert sunsets, endless open roads, and misfits searching for meaning. She first made waves in Europe, touring club circuits, playing major festivals, and charming crowds with her offbeat storytelling and sharp wit. But her obsession with the American dream never faded, pulling her to Nashville, where she recorded her ‘70s-inspired coming-of-age debut album, Morning Sun. The record gained international recognition, earned praise from Elton John, and won her an RIAA Gold Award for her jagged-edged folk ballad Tangled Up in You. Shortly after, she made history as the first Dutch artist ever to play AmericanaFest in Nashville, proving she could hold her own in the old-school big leagues, while still being the weirdest person in the room.

Medicine Disco

Medicine Disco

Medicine Disco: a beautiful, systemized, dance ritual and social event with no substances, no phones, no shaman culture, no influencer culture.

It's electric, therapeutic, and funky.

A middle ground between a dope night out at the clubs and a meditative spiritual practice.

The Medicine is the music, the dance. The Disco is the dance party it’s served in.

The host and DJ, Michael V is a highly trained expert at dance music storytelling, fitness training, and movement coaching.

The music selection will range and scaffold from ambient, to sultry RNB, to disco, to pumping house, afro, latin, jazz, indie pop, rock, electronic, and other genres in order to give the body a rich storyline to dance to.

1. Music is on, Michael V on the mic.

2. Physical and Non-Physical warm up to bring the musculoskeletal and nervous system online.

3. Orientation to the structure of the dance experience and the rules that make it work.

4. Gorgeous sounds for a short guided meditation.

5. Then the dancing begins: Anywhere between a 90 - 120 minute musical journey that feels like we are dancing through a movie - a really good movie

Michael V will punctuate the dance set with cues on the mic to keep us from getting stuck in our heads, in a habitual movement pattern, or accidentally staying small.

We dance and clap and spin and sweat and maybe scream and maybe cry and maybe feel better than we ever did on the first day of the year (or ever).

The dance ends softly so we can bask in the results of our busting ass on the dance floor - kinda like the end of a yoga class.

We rise slowly, lightly, cutesy, with additional soft lounge tunes to bring us back to a place where we can metabolize the effects of the dance and socialize from this post-dance state of being.

Indulge in the specialty drinks and food available at the venue as a group that shifted energy together.

Darren Kiely live at The Ellis with Fabrizio on March 22. An all-ages night of folk, Americana, and powerful storytelling.

🎶 Darren Kiely Live at The Ellis

with special guest Fabrizio
📍 Newburgh, NY
📅 Saturday, March 22, 2026
👥 All Ages

Darren Kiely brings his powerful, folk-infused sound to The Ellis for an intimate live performance on March 22, joined by special guest Fabrizio.

Hailing from County Cork, Ireland, Darren Kiely blends traditional Irish roots with modern folk influences reminiscent of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, and Noah Kahan. His emotive songwriting and raw vocal delivery have earned him international attention, with chart-topping tracks like “Sunrise” and “Mom & Dad” and acclaimed EPs Lost and From The Dark. Now based between New York City and Nashville, Kiely continues to captivate audiences with deeply personal storytelling and soaring melodies.

Opening the night is Fabrizio, a Nashville-based Americana and country artist with a voice as powerful as his story. Born in the highlands of Huánuco, Peru, and later settling in Georgia at just 15, Fabrizio channels his journey into a commanding baritone that blends traditional country emotion with modern Southern storytelling. At only 23, he is quickly carving out a unique space in the Americana scene with performances that are as honest as they are unforgettable.

This is an all-ages show and a rare chance to experience two rising voices in folk and Americana in an intimate venue setting.

🎶 Early arrival strongly recommended.

Deep, driving techno pulses through the room.

Sound. Sweat. Release.

This is not nightlife.

This is daylife evolution.

A curated gathering for creators, seekers, and the beautifully expressive.

An acclaimed musician of many genres, Chris Dingman has been performing on the vibraphone for 25+ years, including with celebrated masters Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and many others. He brings together this background with a host of studies and influences from around the world, in service of taking listeners on a journey to a transcendent place. Since then, Chris has brought his special brand of healing music journeys far and wide, from live sessions at Omega Institute and The Rubin Museum of Art to his regular online series Transformations, his work with the Psychedelic Sangha, music for mediumship, and much more. His critically acclaimed albums Journeys vol. 1 and vol. 2, are described by The New York Times as “hypnotizing,” and by Jazz at Lincoln Center as “absolutely beautiful."
