The ELLIS LOVES: AUGUST 2026
The Ellis Loves The Dance Floor
The dog days thin to something like a thread,
the river keeps the heat it took all day,
and Dubois Street, with every window red
with dusk, is in no hurry either way.
Inside, the house goes dark. The final scene
of one long summer's play lets out at nine,
and no one leaves. There's floor enough between
the curtain falling and the first bassline.
Somebody's shoes are somewhere. Let them stay.
The dancers hang like weather in the air
as if to keep September one more day,
and no one here is dressed for cooler air.
So come at seven. Stay until it's late.
Let summer set its own hour. We can wait.
